Elham Al-Qasimi: North Pole Expedition
In April 2010, Elham Al-Qasimi set off to trek to the North Pole. She became the first Arab woman to set foot at the northernmost tip of the world, making the trek ski-assisted and unsupported. Prior to starting her expedition, she asked Full Cream Milk to design a website that would document her training and follow her progress to the Pole.

Media coverage page

Charity support page

The site for Elham’s North Pole expedition had to meet several requirements. It was important that the site could contain many different kinds of content, including audio and video files of the news and media coverage. Elham wanted a journal which she could update during the last weeks of her training and during the expedition itself. Details of her sponsors and the charities she was supporting during the expedition were also important, including links to fund-raising pages and social media sites.
Our design for the site aimed to present all this information in a consistent and approachable way, with clear navigation and site structure. The homepage content was particularly important. As the expedition progressed, it displayed Elham’s latest journal post, as well as her current position near the Pole, how far she had travelled on a daily basis and cumulatively, and the weather conditions. Elham used a satellite phone to send an XML feed containing her journal post and photos, which were integrated into the site.
On 23 April 2010, Elham reached the North Pole, the first Arab woman ever to set foot there.
