Workshops for Web people

2 August 2007 | Owen Gregory

Professional Web events in the UK are hard to come by outside London and the South East. The larger events take place there (@media, FOWA/FOWD, dConstruct, for example) and training events like those run by Carson Workshops are also based in London.

And while they represent good value, they are sometimes less than affordable, particularly when travel and accommodation costs are taken into account.

That’s why Keir Whitaker decided to set up Workshops for Web People, intending “to start hosting professional workshops, given by experts, put on in modern venues around the UK for around a £100–£125â€?. The first event will be Andy Clarke’s Transcending CSS: Modern techniques for designing a beautiful Web.

It’s very exciting to see someone start what will hopefully become a series of Web events outside London, attracting the best in the business to speak. WFWP is already planning other events on CSS; JavaScript, Ajax and Hijax; and development frameworks. There are even rumours of a conference…

We at Full Cream Milk wish Keir and WFWP well and we will certainly be keeping up with developments.

Looking forward to attending. Heard Andy Clarke at FOWD and he’s a really good speaker.
